Isaiah 62:5 is my life verse

I first met this verse as an antiphon in The People's Mass Book when I was sixteen years old, in a setting by Guido de Sutter. The music helped this word get down into my heart where it has been working to domesticate me ever since (see Colossians 3:16).

ordained a lector on this day in 1971 by Cardinal Timothy Manning

One of the fixed dimensions of my life is the importance of the Word of God proclaimed in the liturgical assembly. My Jesuit and Vincentian teachers gave me the skills to read; but it was a Benedictine, Father Vincent Martin, O.S.B., who inspired me to live on God's word alone; and it was Dr. Robert P. Meye, my mentor at Fuller Theological Seminary, and Dr. Robert Hillman, who showed that this was possible. Thank you, God, for these good men. Help me to resound with your Word for the rest of my life.
